What
is "The Hear Foundation"
Some children are born with a hearing defect and they
have little no hearing. This will not only result in that
the child will not be able to hear but also his speech
will not be developed properly.
When severe and profound hearing loss are detected early
enough in a child's life, the child can receive a cochlear
implant which will enable such children to hear. This
implant is extremely expensive and it will cost the parents
of such children about R240 000 to have such an implant
done on their children.
After the Fanie de Villiers' family and Daneel and Santie
vd Walt had such implants done on their children, they
realized the need for such implants in other children.
Because this is such an expensive operation, it is not
possible for all parents to have this implant done and
most of these children will grow up without being able
to hear or speak properly.
Thus they founded a non-profit organization called "Hear"
This organization helps children with little to NO hearing
to receive a cochlear implant which will enable them to
hear normally and consequently be able to speak normally
one day.
